This particular success story demonstrates what can happen if the schools are run privately,with a board, instead of by the diocese or the parish. That's why our area Catholic High Schools and the Nazareth Schools are in no danger of closing. The Bishop should have let the parents run an independent school on the Holy Trinity campus. We couldn't have done any worse than the diocese did.It would have been a win-win proposition for the parish and the school!
It is too bad more national attention did not come before the announcement to collapse our beloved Catholic elementary schools. In spite of the Pope's message of Catholic education being a top priority, not a liability, our diocese still chooses to stand by it's ill-conceived plan. Several more schools could have remained open to meet the need which the Pope himself recognized. Many of which would be self sustaining. It is unfortunate this bishop does not draw from the success of this school system to bolster ours. He prefers to fail the schools and fail the children.
