The Democrat and Chronicle reports on packed classrooms that may result from the consolidation of Rochester's Catholic schools. Diocesan spokesperson Doug Mandelaro notes a maximum class size of 30 students, which is in stark contrast to promises made at the post-decision "listening sessions" where Diocesan officials stated maximum class size would be 27.
The story also notes that Bishop Matthew Clark, who has outright refused to meet with parents or teachers (or speak with the media) since his Jan. 18 announcement, met with Rochester City Schools Superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard on Feb. 27 to discuss student transitions.

When did they say 27? That's not a number I heard. The only low number I heard was in regard to St. Louis being allowed to cap their classes at 26, while other schools are being forced to go to 30.
In the Good Shepherd School listening session on February 4, where Fr. Hart and Doug Mandelaro said the Diocesan maximum was 27 per classroom.
At the St. Pius parent meeting, which was held the day registration began, the new number was 25, although if raising it to 27 or 28 was necessary in order to accomodate everyone who registered, then they would rather do that than turn families away. The principal made it seem as though thirty was not a number they were willing to go to, possibly in light of comments made regarding large class size??
I think my son is going to be accompanied by the fire marshal on the first day of school in September!
