As many had suspected, ulterior motives in the area Catholic school closings are beginning to emerge. As the Democrat and Chronicle reports today, Holy Family Church is now slated for closure alongside Holy Family School.According to the story "The Holy Family School will also close this month under a decision announced in January by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester. The school, church and other Holy Family Church properties will be put up for sale."
One wonders if the proceeds of the sale will be designated to help stabilize the rest of the Catholic school system...

There is no way the diocese will use any of that money for the schools. They don't want the elementary schools to exist. The only reason some were left open is because the bishop couldn't handle the heat that he'd surely get by closing them all at once.
I'm sure they are all scratching their heads, trying to come up with another way they can force more people out while claiming to try to stabilize the system.
From the D&C story: Both churches each have an average attendance total of 300 each Sunday.
While there may have been other, hidden agendas in play, unless those 300 folks are, on average, pretty well-heeled, they probably just aren't enough to provide reasonable staffing, pay operating expenses, AND keep an old building in good repair.
It looks like this church closing just comes down to money - or the lack of it.
